Low-Carbon Methanol Facility

StormFisher Hydrogen aims to transform the partially built Recyclage Carbone Varennes site into the first large-scale Renewable Fuels of Non-Biological Origin (RFNBO)-compliant low-carbon methanol plant in North America.

Located in Varennes, Quebec, the project will produce approximately 77,000 tonnes of low-carbon methanol per year using renewable electricity and captured local biogenic CO₂. This clean fuel will help decarbonize hard-to-abate sectors such as shipping, aviation, and heavy industry.

By reusing existing infrastructure and equipment, StormFisher is reducing costs, construction time, and environmental impact. The project is expected to capture and repurpose 100,000 tonnes of CO₂ annually, the equivalent of removing 22,000 cars from the road.

Construction is planned to begin in 2026, with operations starting by the end of 2028.
